Class Descriptions

Ashtanga Style, Vinyasa, Rocket & Mysore Classes

Full Led Primary

In this 90 minutes traditional class, students will be guided through the entire Ashtanga Primary Series, including sun salutations, standing postures, seated postures, backbends, inversions, and finishing postures. We cue in both English and Sanskrit, focusing on the vinyasa count. Modifications are offered based on each students’ level and ability.

**Modifications offered for beginners; all are welcome to join us.

Mysore Style

Mysore-style Ashtanga is the traditional way of learning the Ashtanga Yoga system. Named after the South Indian city of Mysore in India (where Krishnamacharya and Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois lived) this style is an individualized practice for beginners and advanced students alike. The method allows students to work “one on one” with a teacher in a group setting — think of it as a “Yoga Study Hall”.

>> Rather than the group being guided by the Teacher, each student works on the sequence given to them by her.

*****
The Shala is open for a 2 hours period and students may start their practice at any time during those hours. We recommend at least 45 minutes for a Mysore practice. Everyone works at their own pace and the teacher guides them through their individual practice.

Slow Burn Vinyasa

In this 90 minutes Zoom-only class, students will be guided through a flowing, dynamic form of yoga that focusing on connecting movement with breath. Poses are held longer (10 breaths or more) to ensure deep relaxation and different body parts (hips, quads, back, etc.) are specifically worked on. Vinyasa classes cultivate balance, flexibility, strength, and endurance. Every class is unique — perfect to awaken your Sunday yoga practice! :)

Rocket Remix

Rocket Yoga (90 minutes) is a style of power vinyasa yoga that was created by Larry Schultz in San Francisco during the 1980s. It includes poses from the intermediate and advanced series of Ashtanga yoga. It is dynamic, flowing, and will strengthen you physically and mentally. We will hold the postures for 5 counts to bring deeper awareness to your practice, and inversions to a count of 10!

Lunchtime Rocket Yoga**

Lunchtime Rocket Yoga is a fast-paced (60 minutes) abbreviated practice of the power vinyasa flow described above. Get ready to “ride the Rocket” into the work week, receiving energy from your practice to carry you on through the remainder of the day!

Vin-Yama Yoga**

This class is very beginner’s friendly (60 mins). Combining specific Pranayama exercises and mindful movement, Vin-Yama Yoga is a wonderful way to release tension and open up your heart to whatever lies ahead. We offer this class on Sunday mornings to help you pause, reflect and reset before the end of the weekend. A family-friendly practice for all!

Community Yoga**

We are so grateful to have Community Yoga on the schedule every Saturday morning. This is an all-levels, beginner’s friendly class (60 mins.) with a minimum donation of $15 to make yoga accessible to all. This flow will include a slow, gentle warm-up, meditative standing, and seated postures, as well as an inviting cooldown.

Modified Ashtanga

Beginner Friendly (90 mins) We will go through the Ashtanga Primary Series sequence with sun salutes, standing, finishing, and most of the seated postures with fewer vinyasas and abbreviated/modified postures. A lot of verbal cues will be given during this class so that muscle memory will eventually come easy to you. We have been told that it takes about 30 consistent practices to get used to the sequence & movements.

Restorative Yoga**

Coming in Spring 2022 (60 mins)

Restorative Yoga is a completely different experience than most other styles of yoga. This is a restful practice that holds postures for a longer duration using props such as yoga blocks, blankets, and bolsters. When the body enters a state of relaxation the mind can also consciously relax as tension is released from both body and mind.

“I've been with Isabella for years and love the practice she leads. She's challenging without being pushy. The Zoom classes during the pandemic allow everyone to stay connected. Can’t wait to be back together in one place!”
